Karnataka Ration Card (Ahara): How to Apply and Check Status

Karnataka’s ration card system is managed through the Ahara portal, run by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies. The application process changed recently – direct online applications on the Ahara portal itself have been discontinued, and applicants are now routed to a different channel depending on their card category.

Types of Ration Cards in Karnataka

  • PHH (Priority Household): For rural and urban households meeting NFSA eligibility.
  • AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana): For the poorest families, with the largest monthly grain quota.
  • Annapurna (AY): For residents above 65 with no other means of support.
  • NPHH (Non-Priority): Issued mainly as identity and address proof, without subsidised grain.

How to Apply for a Ration Card in Karnataka

Applications for APL and NPHH cards go through the Seva Sindhu portal. PHH, BPL, and AAY applications are handled through Janaseva centres or your local Fair Price Shop rather than a direct online form. In either case, you’ll need:

  • Aadhaar card of every family member
  • Proof of residence in Karnataka
  • Income certificate (for PHH/BPL and AAY)
  • Caste certificate, where applicable
  • Passport-size photographs of adult members

Once your card is issued, you can check your details and download it from the Ahara Karnataka portal (the older ahara.kar.nic.in address now redirects here automatically).
